Our assignment was to take 5 photos in which we placed a directional light with a diffuser in different spots to manipulate the lighting in the photos.
In this photo we manipulated the light so that it was a photo showing side lighting. It isn't a severe case but you can tell in the photo that there are hard transitions in the shadows to the light and there are little to no mid tones.
This is an example of front lighting because the light source was behind me, pointed at the subject. You can see this because of how his shadow is cast against the wall.
This is a harsher example of side lighting.
This is another example of front lighting but the light has been moved to the side some to give more side lighting.
This final photo is another one that uses front lighting but the light switched sides so that the subjects shadow was cast against the other side.
