For our assignment today, we were to take 2 pictures of three different subjects, making six in total. One photo is supposed to be completely centered and the other is using the rule of thirds.
My first subject is a statue of St. Joseph. I took this photo because I thought the statue looked like a good focal point for a photo. Here you can see the statue is more or less centered in the frame.
My second subject was of a St. Joseph banner, hanging in our hallway on the second floor. I took this picture because it has a phrase that describes our school's history. This photo breaks the rule of thirds because it is equally balanced on each side in terms of visual space.
My final photo was of the quote on the glass case in the media center of St. Josephs. I took this photo because I though it was an interesting quote. You can see that this breaks the rule of thirds by being centered in the frame. You can can tell because the chair is aligned straight.
In this second shot of the statue, I moved to the side and aligned the statue in the top right corner of the grid thus putting it off center and using the rule of thirds.
This second photo of the banner is aligned on the right side of the frame and is therefore using the rule of thirds.
Here is that photo after I applied the rule of thirds and now you can see the chair is angles slightly and everything is aligned to the right.
